Amazon warehouse worker dies of COVID-19 in New York
An Amazon recently died from COVID-19, caused by coronavirus.this employee was a warehouse worker in New York. The last working place of the employee was Staten island on April 5 and was in quarantine since April 11. The news about his death was received from the Internet.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of an associate at our site in Staten Island, New York,” Amazon spokeswoman Kristen Kish said. “His family and loved ones are in our thoughts, and we are supporting his fellow colleagues.”
The Company said that they are in constant touch with the employee’s family and are offering their counseling and supports to other workers.
A lot of Amazon warehouse workers have been confirmed positive for COVID-19, and there are five confirmed deaths so far. Amazon warehouse workers in Tracy and Hawthorne, California, have died from COVID-19. Two more employees working in the supermarket chain whole foods market, owned by Amazon, have also died from Coronavirus. One of the employees was from Portland, Oregon, and the other was from Massachusetts.
Amazon is constantly facing criticism for the ill-treatments of warehouse workers during the pandemic times. Workers have organized many demonstrations across the US, asking for safe working conditions for the warehouse employees. Workers fear that the amazon warehouse is becoming the potential breeding ground for Coronavirus, and it could spread to their families and also to the Amazon customers.
Last month Amazon said the Company had provided 100 million masks to the Wholefoods stores and global operation network, giving these masks to Amazon associates, seasonal employees, delivery service partners. Amazon said that the Company has made it mandatory to wear masks in the facility along with continuous temperature checks.
Coronavirus cases are increasing every day in the United States, and there are several death confirmed from COVID-19 so far.
