The number of Corona virus cases surpasses 90,000 worldwide, WHO Chief warns “’we are in uncharted territory’”

World Health Organization head told that public officers have been operating in “unchartered territory” in order to combat the coronavirus spread. Currently, 90,000 people have been infected across 73 countries and territories.

Antarctica is the only continent safe from the spread of this novel Corona Virus. It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, a central Chinese city. Medical officials are battling day and night with the outbreak of the virus in Iran, South Korea, and Italy. Other countries are trying best by alerting citizens, readying public health authorities, and also enacting travel restrictions to avoid the same fate as other countries.

To date, 172 deaths are reported outside china and the global death toll is 3, 115. Nations that have come across positive cases are following strict prevention measures to limit the spread of the virus. Several countries have closed down the schools and canceled public events and are warned to not attend any public gathering. WHO has warned that the virus spread can be pandemic.

“We have never before seen a respiratory pathogen that is capable of community transmission, but which can also be contained with the right measures,” said the director-general of global health watchdog.

Investors fear that the global economic recession because of the spread of Coronavirus. China is the second-biggest economy, the country had to close down many manufacturing units because of the spread and this has affected many global product supply chains. To date, 2,943 people have been killed and 80,151 people are infected in mainland China.

The virus is affecting economies and people outside of China as of now.  This virus plunged an economic downturn is the worst after the 2009 global financial crisis.

The WHO’s Ghebreyesus told that “in the last 24 hours, there were almost nine times more COVID-19 cases reported outside China than inside.”

Italy, South Korea and Iran are facing severe outbreaks outside china. Seoul authorities said on Tuesday that there are more than 4,800 infections and 28 people have died so far. In Italy, more than 1,835 people are infected and 52 deaths have been reported. Similarly, Iran has reported 1,500 cases and nearly 66 deaths, which includes Supreme Leader’s advisor.

Nations close to Iran are taking all the preventive measures to avoid the virus spread and has closed their borders with the country. The European Union has raised the alert from moderate to high. There are around 2000 cases of infected people in the EU, with the major outbreak happening in Italy.

The number of cases in the USA has been rising too. Donald Trump said that he is considering taking extra travel restrictions from other countries because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

 

“Let’s be clear: The risk to the American people of the coronavirus remains low, according to all of the experts that we are working with across the government,” said  Pence, the vice president of America.
